This song was written in the late Seventies. I had completely forgotten about it for more than twenty five years. I only found it again when I saw my complete catalogue on line and the song title was listed. After all that time I remembered the entire song the first time I tried to play it. It has become a keeper for me and is in my current performance repertoire. I’m really happy with the chord structure for this piece. I wrote the song because I was intrigued by the way North American society sees alcohol differently than other recreational drugs when in fact they are all intoxicants and alcohol is as or more destructive that most of the others.
I wrote this for my wife’s birthday. I tell a good story about this song on stage but I’m not going to tell here – I have to leave something for the live performance experience.
This is one of the most recent songs. I am an optimist. I believe that we are bombarded daily with negative messages, particulatly in the news media, which leads us to think that things are much worse than they actually are. In the end, however, there is generally positive progress for the better. We ultimately seem to get it right.
This song speaks for itself. It is not truly autobiographical but I will write more about it at a later date.
